century Paralelo was the symbol of the industrialization of Barcelona,
but when the Barrio del Raval
or Barrio Chino reached Paralelo
this changed its atmosphere, filling it with bars, theatres, cabarets
and cafés with live music.
became the Montmartre of Barcelona. In the post-war period Paralelo
lost a lot of its splendour, and only the Teatre
Arnau and El Molino (closed
from 1997 aprox.) remained
from all its theatres, and with the modernization of the neighbourhood
and of the city other premises arose, such as the discotheque Studio
54 (now closed) or the Apolo,
and also pornographic venues such as the Bagdad,
and various cinemas which invaded the empty theatre halls: the Nuevo,
Regio Palace, etc.
Montjuďc Funicular leaves from Paralˇlel underground station. Renewed
in 1991, it takes you to the Montjuich funfair (closed at the moment).
