DELTA DE L'EBRE Tel. 977 48 96 79

With an area of 320 km▓, the Ebro river delta is the second most important aquatic habitat and migration reserve of the western Mediterranean.

The flat landscape of the delta is a unique wonder in Catalonia. The nature reserve, covering around 7,700 ha, is divided into different areas, some easily accessible, others only with prior authorization.

Besides bird watching (for which we suggest you bring your binoculars and do it early in the morning or at the end of the day), you can also do other activities such as boat trips to the mouth of the river itself, walks, bike rides, sunbathing on the beach, or tasting the traditional cuisine of the area (rice with its Quality Guarantee, is the most important crop of the Delta), etc.

Though there is public transportation (bus Hifesa Tel. 322 78 14), to Deltebre, a village situated in the centre of the delta, it is recommended to have some means of transport to move around the area, at least a bike.

GARROTXA Tel. 972 26 01 41 / 972 27 02 42

Though the last eruption occurred more than 10,000 years ago, the region of La Garrotxa represents the best example of volcanic landscape in Spain and one of the most interesting of Europe.

If we add to this nature reserve of the volcanic area of La Garrotxa a rich and diversified vegetation (thanks to its especially humid climate), an incredibly beautiful landscape and a fine gastronomic culture, it is easy to understand why this area is so appreciated, not only by the tourists, but also by people from Barcelona.

The most interesting places to visit are: Olot, capital of the area of La Garrotxa, Castellfollit de La Roca, with its houses almost hanging from the cliffs, La Fageda d'en JordÓ, a beech tree forest, famous for its red and gold colours during autumn, the village of Santa Pau, and Santa Margarida volcano.

If you still have one or two days left, we recommend you to go back to Barcelona through Ripoll (capital of RipollŔs region) and through Vic (capital of Osona region), where you will admire, among other things, wonderful examples of the Romanesque architecture of Catalonia.

Though you can get everywhere by public transport, if you want to visit several places this is not recommended, because you would lose too much valuable time. Anyway, you can get to Olot by coach (TEISA Tel. 93 215 35 66 (Barcelona) / 972 - 26 01 96 (Olot) ) or rent a car.
